European Humanitarian Forum 2024

Le Forum huma­ni­taire euro­péen aura lieu du lun­di 18 au mar­di 19 mars 2024. L’é­vé­ne­ment se tien­dra à Fla­gey, à Bruxelles, et sera retrans­mis en direct sur ce site.

Le Forum, co-orga­ni­sé par la Com­mis­sion euro­péenne (DG ECHO) et la Bel­gique dans le cadre de sa pré­si­dence du Conseil de l’UE, se déroule dans un contexte de forte aug­men­ta­tion des besoins huma­ni­taires mon­diaux, alors que l’es­pace huma­ni­taire se réduit, que les conflits sont de plus en plus com­plexes et pro­lon­gés, que l’aide est poli­ti­sée et que les vul­né­ra­bi­li­tés dues au chan­ge­ment cli­ma­tique s’accroissent.

Les besoins huma­ni­taires mon­diaux ont atteint des niveaux sans pré­cé­dent, avec plus de 350 mil­lions de per­sonnes dans le monde qui ont besoin d’une aide huma­ni­taire vitale. Cela repré­sente au moins 20 % de plus qu’en 2022 et 40 % de plus qu’en 2021. Plus de 100 mil­lions de per­sonnes ont été dépla­cées de force et 43 mil­lions de per­sonnes dans 51 pays sont au bord de la famine.

We are plea­sed to announce that the third edi­tion of the Euro­pean Huma­ni­ta­rian Forum will take place from Mon­day 18 to Tues­day 19 March 2024. The event will be held in Fla­gey, in Brus­sels, and will be lives­trea­med on this website.

The Forum, co-orga­ni­sed by the Euro­pean Com­mis­sion (DG ECHO) and Bel­gium in the fra­me­work of its Pre­si­den­cy of the Coun­cil of the EU, takes place in the context of shar­ply increa­sing glo­bal huma­ni­ta­rian needs, at a time of shrin­king huma­ni­ta­rian space, increa­sin­gly com­plex and pro­trac­ted conflicts, the poli­ti­ci­sa­tion of aid, and increa­sing vul­ne­ra­bi­li­ties due to cli­mate change.

Glo­bal huma­ni­ta­rian needs have rea­ched unpre­ce­den­ted levels, with more than 350 mil­lion people around the world in need of life­sa­ving huma­ni­ta­rian assis­tance. This is at least 20% more than in 2022, and 40% more than in 2021. Over 100 mil­lion people have been for­ci­bly dis­pla­ced and 43 mil­lion people in 51 coun­tries are on the brink of starvation.

Fol­lo­wing the suc­cess of the first two edi­tions of the Euro­pean Huma­ni­ta­rian Forum in March 2022 and 2023, the third edi­tion will conti­nue to look at huma­ni­ta­rian aid in a wider, cross-sec­to­ral context. The Forum will explore and address the impli­ca­tions of the cur­rent, most pres­sing huma­ni­ta­rian crises, inclu­ding rele­vant inter­ac­tion of huma­ni­ta­rian aid with other key sec­tors and poli­cy areas. Addi­tio­nal­ly, the Forum will bring toge­ther local actors, with the objec­tive to joint­ly pro­pose inno­va­tive, more sus­tai­nable solu­tions to contem­po­ra­ry huma­ni­ta­rian challenges.
